Once agents initiate payments, institutions will spend more proving them trustworthy than making them smarter.
The thesis
Every payment network asks: who is this, and can we hold them accountable? KYC answers for people. Nothing answers for an agent: no passport, no credit file, no identity that survives a redeploy.
Payment protocols exist. Proof of an agent’s identity, principal, and track record does not. KnowYourAgent binds each agent to an accountable principal, verifies merchants in under 100ms, and keeps reputation records an agent cannot shed by renaming itself.
The test: whether institutions gate agent payments on verified identity the way they gate accounts on KYC. If agents stay anonymous proxies for a cardholder, the bet fails. Design partners are running it now.
